WILL ROCKY RIVER’S HEAD STAY STUCK IN THE SAND?

To: Rocky River City School District, Rocky River City Government, Rocky River Business Community and Fellow Residents,

We need a ‘new status quo’ in Rocky River that takes its ‘head out of the sand’ and pays attention to Rocky River city government’s increased spending, surplus and taxation.

With passage of my proposed ‘charter addition’ - that limits Rocky River city government spending, surplus and taxes.  This ‘new status quo’ will emerge in River!

WHY?

(1)        I asked Rocky River city government to cut its spending several times.  They ignored me.  They increased it.

(2)        Rocky River’s old status quo, the movers and shakers in Rocky River? Ignore the city’s increased spending.  They want to keep things the way they are.

(3)        The ‘status quo’ shall be taken from those with their ‘head in the sand’.  While given to a ‘responsible citizenry’ that will demand accountability of Rocky River city government’s spending, surplus and taxation.

HOW?

·    ‘NEW STATUS QUO’ WILL EMERGE IN ROCKY RIVER.  When voters approve a ‘proposed’ charter addition.   That empowers citizens to oversee, approve and limit Rocky River city government spending, surplus and taxes.  This ‘charter addition’ seeks to be on the November 6th 2007 Rocky River Municipal Ballot.

·    ‘NEW STATUS QUO’ WILL BE RESIDENTS.  By charter, residents will make ‘elected Rocky River officials’ handle city finances the way citizens want.  Not the way a ‘select few’ want it.

·    ‘NEW STATUS QUO’ WILL BENEFIT RESIDENTS.  How?  Rocky River city government spending, surplus and taxes will be limited.  Less money will be used by city government.  Money will be re-directed back to residents’ and businesses’ pockets.  Not to Rocky River city government’s coffers!

  • WHO IS KEPT OUT? Rocky River city government’s relentless spending, surplus and taxation - will earn it a place outside the ‘new status quo’.   Rocky River city government will be put on a short financial leash.

IN CLOSING, as Ronald Wilson Reagan said in his ‘Farewell Speech’ January 11, 1989, “… man is not free unless government is limited.”

Will Riverites someday free themselves by limiting River city government, or will we keep our heads stuck in the sand?
