ROCKY RIVER DEPARTMENT OF CITIZEN'S RIGHTS!

To: Rocky River City School District, Rocky River City Government, Rocky River Business Community and Fellow Residents,

I call for a ‘Rocky River Department of Citizen’s Rights’.  Why?

MISSION STATEMENT

  1. Inform residents, visitors, elected and unelected government officials.  As American Citizens … Rocky River Citizens rights are protected under our U.S. Bill of Rights.

  1. Defend and Protect Rocky River citizen’s rights through appropriate action.

  1. ‘Rocky River Department of Citizen’s Rights’ will be independently formed and operated by the local, legal and business community to assure city-wide support and success in its said ‘mission statement’.

  1. Membership to this Department requires you - only to believe in and dedicate yourself - to protecting the rights of anyone living in, doing business in or visiting Rocky River.

Why is protecting the Rights of Rocky River citizens important?

(1.) Free Speech squashed in Rocky River?

For anyone who tries to squash ‘free speech’ in Rocky River.  They may face a ‘Civil Rights Violation Lawsuit’ filed against them.

Monday night September 11, 2006 at Rocky River Council meeting.   Council did squash my ‘free speech’ by denying to put my two (2) letters I sent to Mr. Brian Hagan, Council President - requesting public financial record from Rocky River City Government.  To be placed onto the public record for that council meeting.

Council claimed they had to check the legality of placing my letters onto the public record.

The United States ‘First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution’ which says.  ”Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech …”   Is all the legality I need to have my letters placed onto the public record.

Yet what was the request I made that perhaps council didn’t want the public to see?

I requested Rocky River city government to account for ‘every penny’ spent of an approximate .6 Billion Dollars in proposed city budget totals from 1990 through 2006.

About two (2) years previous at Rocky River city council a 'somewhat similar challenge' took place by council towards me.   Again I already announced previously, I was seeking the office of The Mayor of Rocky River.   Yet, they backed down and placed my letter on the city record.

You would think council would learn from the ‘cow pie’ that they stepped in two years ago?   That they would be smart enough to make sure it didn’t happen to them again - especially when they are on the ‘learning curve.’

Yet if council doesn’t put my two letters I requested onto the public record.

I will have no choice but ‘legally fight’ for my right of ‘Free Speech’ guaranteed to all American Citizens!

(2.) Our forefathers guaranteed equality.

President Abraham Lincoln (below - center) - his only known photo at Gettysburg Address - November 19, 1863

I once read a Cleveland historical article that occurred in 1963.  The article was titled "An illusion of harmony shatters."

It showed a dramatic picture that reminds me that Americans struggled throughout history to be heard and treated fairly.

It shows black and white Americans demonstrating against inequality, carrying signs in-between the Cleveland Board of Education Building and a statue of Abraham Lincoln.

Below Lincoln's statue a sign reads "Separate is not Equal" reminding me that Lincoln also struggled "...That all men are created equal ..."

Lincoln was assassinated because of what he believed, lived and said on Nov. 19, 1863 during his Gettysburg Address.

He began by noting that only "Four score and seven years ago ..." on July 4, 1776 our founding fathers were dedicated to a proposition " ... That all men are created equal ..."

Lincoln and our founding fathers gave their lives to advance equality.  We must continue by ensuring equal protection for all Americans to enjoy their rights –not given by, but secured by the government and the law.

Today, we struggle, but not in vain, to keep and advance our precious equality, independence and freedoms from others who want to take them from us.

Pledging allegiance to our flag saying, "under God, with liberty and justice for all," we promise one day - all women and men will be created equal.

Thank You - My Best Wishes To You and Yours – And God Bless America!
