ROCKY RIVER: FIVE (5) WARDS AND FIVE (5) WARD COUNCIL MEMBERS!

To: Rocky River City School District, Rocky River City Government, Rocky River Business Community and Fellow Residents,

As Rocky River city government continues to ‘appoint elected officials’, leaving residents disconnected.  While telling us there are “no” good old boys in Rocky River city government.

I WILL SEEK TO ‘REFORM AND CONNECT’ ROCKY RIVER CITY GOVERNMENT ‘TOTALLY TO THE FOLKS.’  HOW?

1.     I will seek to establish a Rocky River ‘council representation’ with a ‘new’ five (5) wards and five (5) ward council member system.  To represent and serve the residents of Rocky River!  How?

2.     Add an additional ward and ward council member onto the now four (4) ward and four (4) ward council members.  Then disband the original three (3) council-at-large.

(Click here and see my proposal as a charter addition.)

WHY DO WE SHRINK ROCKY RIVER CITY COUNCIL FROM (4) WARDS AND SEVEN (7) COUNCIL MEMBERS – TO FIVE (5) WARDS AND FIVE (5) WARD COUNCIL MEMBERS?

1.     FOR BETTER RESIDENT REPRESENTATION!  More wards and ward council members better the representation ‘per ward’.

2.     SAVE ROCKY RIVER TAXPAYERS MONEY!  Taxpayers will pay for five (5) Rocky River council members – instead of the now seven (7) Rocky River council members.

3.     Currently, Rocky River has four (4) wards and four (4) ward council members and an additional three (3) council-at–large members.

4.     Now, each ‘ward council member’ represents approximately 5250 residents apiece ‘per ward’.  While each ward council-at-large member represents our entire city of approximately 21,000 residents.

5.     This week a Rocky River city government official commented about the importance of council-at-large members who represent the entire city of Rocky River.  I disagree.  A council member should never have to represent an entire city of approximately 21,000 residents.  How can any council member represent and meet all those resident’s needs?

6.     Furthermore in theory, four (4) wards and four (4) ward council members are already representing the needs of the approximate 21,000 residents in Rocky River.

7.     Why do we need another layer of council-at-large members to do the job that the four (4) wards and four (4) ward council members are already doing?

8.     In ‘private business’ overlapping services is sometimes called “duplication of services” and ‘a waste of money’ and would never be tolerated!  Why is it tolerated in Rocky River City Government?

AS A ‘NON-ATTORNEY’ MY ‘CHARTER ADDITION PROPOSAL’ TO ESTABLISH FIVE (5) WARDS AND FIVE (5) WARD COUNCIL MEMBERS IN ROCKY RIVER - CALLS FOR:

1.     TO ‘ADD’ AN ADDITIONAL WARD AND WARD COUNCIL MEMBER POSITION.  Then disband the current three (3) council-at-large member positions.

2.     ESTABLISH FIVE (5) WARDS AND FIVE (5) WARD COUNCIL MEMBERS REPRESENTING ROCKY RIVER RESIDENTS.

3.     EACH OF THE FIVE (5) WARD COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM THE FIVE (5) WARDS SHOULD REPRESENT APPROXIMATELY 4200 RESIDENTS APIECE ‘PER WARD’.  That’s a reduction of approximately 1050 residents to be represented by each of the five (5) ward council members ‘per ward’.  From the four (4) wards that currently represent approximately 5250 residents apiece ‘per ward’.

4.     That means more representation from each of the five (5) ward council members.

5.     SAVE TAXPAYERS MONEY!  By cutting out three (3) council-at-large members – and adding only an additional ward council member.  Taxpayers will be saving money by not paying two council members that are excluded.

  1. THERE WILL BE NO COUNCIL-AT-LARGE MEMBERS!
