Business Community and Fellow Residents,
As an official candidate for mayor, I have sized up my opponents, fashioned a campaign strategy and a campaign message – with the help of you the voter.
FRED SOKOL’S THOUGHTS ON HIS TWO (2) OPPONENTS FOR MAYOR OF ROCKY RIVER!
· I’m the ‘working class candidate’ with a ‘working class’ message and strategy I see my opponents as city hall insiders. It is time to clean house at city hall.
· (1.) Voters tell me they see no new ideas and no leadership coming out of city hall so it appears anyone coming out of city hall as a candidate will have to deal with this perception. (2.) Yet voters tell me of a particular citizen’s ideas and leadership. Who is this Rocky River citizen? (Ask the gentleman from Rocky River who could not sign my petition as I collected signatures this year, yet told me he may vote for me. He told me that Rocky River city hall has followed many of my ideas and he further said even though you (Fred Sokol) haven’t won an election – take comfort in the fact that city hall has followed your lead on many of your ideas – in that case you have won!) I like to thank this fellow resident here in this letter for those kind words – they are most appreciated.
· Yes the people are not happy with Rocky River city hall officials (my opponents are city hall officials) with their liberal spending, failed leadership, people moving out of River, Vacant and Foreclosed Homes, Empty Stores, Businesses Moving Out (have you seen what is left in ‘disappearing’ Rockport Shopping Center in Ward 4 not much) and taxes keep going up.
· Think about it; are you better off now than four (4) years ago?
· Finally, I really do not understand why my opponents are both city hall insiders especially when city hall is so unpopular now. All voters need to do “to sweep out city hall’ is just vote for me, ‘the working class candidate’.
· In closing my opponents just may be battling for runner-up in this Rocky River mayoral campaign and apparently neither of my opponents took ‘Politics 101’ to have a smarter strategy.
FRED SOKOL SHARES HIS CAMPAIGN STRATEGY!
· Being in a three-way ‘mayoral race’ my strategy is simple. It will be ‘me as a working class candidate’ who stands for and speaks for the people to make their lives better’ VERSUS ‘them (my opponents) as city hall insiders (and on their watch) everything that is wrong in Rocky River’. My city hall opponents had their chance now it is time for new ideas and a new ‘working class mayor’ and that is me.
-
An example of my strategy that I have already used to defeat government jurisdictions and what I will use to defeat my city hall opponents. (1.) Like the time I was fighting the jail issue in Rocky River, throughout Cuyahoga County and in Lorain County with The Local, County, State and Federal officials who pushed the jail issue. (2.) I opposed their efforts, by making it clear to them that I stood for and spoke for the people on the issue of NO JAIL in the community where it was proposed at any given time. (3.) It was a very powerful and effective strategy against the political insiders and we won many times. (4.) We only lost in Parma yet we forced a vote on the issue. (5.) Yet do you see any ‘community based correctional facility’ (minimum security/work release/felon facility) built in Cuyahoga County? Nope! (6.) Matter of fact Cuyahoga County is the only county in Ohio that doesn’t have a ‘community-based correctional facility’, I wonder why? (7.) Ladies and Gentlemen I am a Community/Citizen Advocate I have always stood for and spoke for the people and I will always continue to do that no matter what issue I am involved in. (8.) That said, Tuesday November 6, 2007 the people not city council (in 2006 city council picked the mayor of Rocky River) will decide who will be the next Mayor of Rocky River for 2008.
FRED SOKOL SHARES HIS MAYORAL MESSAGE!
· “NO TO ABORTION AND CUT PROPERTY TAX” is Fred Sokol for Mayor of Rocky River’s simple yet powerful message.
“NO TO ABORTION”
· Yes, you the voter made Protecting Rocky River’s Unborn (No to Abortion) your number one (1) Rocky River issue. Yes I have heard you loud and clear.
· AS MAYOR, I WILL PROTECT ROCKY RIVER’S UNBORN.
· I am appalled (according to city council ‘minute records’ on March 13, 2000) my two opponents voted (aye) to: “Amended Ordinance No. 94-99 An ordinance providing for the amendment of part seven (business regulation code) of the codified ordinances of the city of Rocky River by adding the new chapter 753, entitled “Ambulatory Surgical Facility (ASF) License”
· In Amended Ordinance No. 94-99 first and second whereas it states:
· “WHEREAS, it is the position of Council that legislation is necessary to preserve and protect maternal health while not placing an undue burden on a woman’s right to an abortion; and” (please note underlines added by me)
· “WHEREAS, it is the intent of Council to enact legislation to further the health and safety of a woman seeking an abortion but not to impose unnecessary health regulations that present a substantial obstacle to a woman seeking an abortion.
· WHEN I AM ELECTED MAYOR OF ROCKY RIVER I WILL PROPOSE AND SUPPORT ANY CITY LAW THAT DOES IMPOSE THE MOST OBSTACLES TO ABORTION IN ROCKY RIVER – AND I WILL SEEK TO REPEAL ANY AND ALL CITY LAW THAT DOES NOT IMPOSE THE MOST OBSTACLES TO ABORTION IN ROCKY RIVER. SO HELP ME GOD!!!
“CUT PROPERTY TAX”
· Yes, you the voter made cutting property tax one (1) of the top two (2) ‘major issues’ you wanted to see done in Rocky River. Yes I have heard you loud and clear.
· In my ‘mayoral campaign’ will tell you how I will financially benefit you and your family and or your business in Rocky River. As Mayor of Rocky River I will tell you how you will be allowed to vote automatically ‘up or down’ on a portion (7.00 mills) of your Rocky River Property Tax annually that goes to the city government’s operating expenses and which there is now no automatic vote for renewal of said property tax millage. We seek to change that. On an average Rocky River home of $200,000 there could be an approximate tax savings of $490 annually* and even more tax savings as the price of your Rocky River property is higher than $200,000. (* the tax total of $490 annually was confirmed by Cuyahoga County Government)
-
(1.) I am also helping: Rocky River citizen’s to form a political action committee called “Citizens Against Pork” (CAP) that seeks to initiate, place on the ballot and pass a Rocky River Charter Addition (2.) that will: ‘Limit Rocky River City Government Spending, Taxes and Surplus’ and requires a refund check to taxpayers for money not spent by city government annually and allowing taxpayers to vote to lower their property tax as well.
In Closing I have heard you my fellow residents. I hear your concerns as I meet you at your door, as I sit down in your home and talk with you there and I hear you as I stand talking to you in your driveway.
· Once after a nice conversation with a Rocky River resident this Summer, and as I left his driveway to start walking away from him while he stood in his yard he called out to me saying, “Stop back again sometime.” I turned, and I waved and promised I would.
· Finally as I close, I Thank You the people of Rocky River for continuing to share with me your concerns, your worries and your hopes for the future. I want to as Mayor dispel your concerns and worries and bring only good for your future.
Rest assured you are always in my prayers!
