This Fourth of July let us ask ourselves: as we celebrate what our Founding Fathers gave us on July 4^th, 1776 just 231 years earlier in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, The American Declaration of Independence which stated in part, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  

 

• Then as all the delegates from the Thirteen American Colonies ‘unanimously approved’ said Declaration of Independence they added their names to the document.  All this took place while just north of them a British Invasion Armada of Ships and British Soldiers waited in New York City Harbor to invade the American Colonies and to quell a rebellion of those troublesome British Colonists that dared to call themselves Americans and Free!

 

We Need New Founding Fathers For America, For Ohio and For Rocky River!

 

• Now 231 years later we ask ourselves as our American Freedoms and our Religious Beliefs are challenged: can any one leader National, State, Regional or from our City come to your mind that shows courage and a backbone that would fight for our Freedoms like our Founding Fathers? 

 

• Can any one leader National, State, Regional or from our City come to your mind that shows moral courage and will stand up for what is right for us in America and proclaim God as Relevant like our Founding Fathers?   

 

• To bring such leaders forth now especially when we need them the most in our Nation, State, Region and for our City all we need to do is to act like those past Americans who did have a backbone, who did speak the truth, who did stand for something and yes risked their very lives that citizens in early America and for the millions of American Citizens to come, would live in a Country where each and every individual can be free to pursue ‘Life, Liberty and Happiness’. 

 

Our Original Founding Fathers Led and Now Show Us The Way!

 

• Our Founding Fathers Two Hundred and Thirty One (231) years ago knew that Life, Liberty and Happiness does not come from a Dictate Of A King, Nor From A Government, Nor From a Government Official.  Life, Liberty and Happiness Comes from God and they were willing to do the right thing and stand up and fight for it.  

 

• Our Founding Fathers had the courage and yes the backbone to state in writing in a document that very fact that we as Americans are entitled to, “ … Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” to a Tyrannical King from England, King George the Third. 

 

• Yes, in the Declaration of Independence Our Founding Fathers courageously signed their ‘own names to that document’.   Where in that day even a written or verbal disagreement with the King would bring certain death, yet they knew at the time that they had to choose “Liberty or Death”!  No kneeling before a tyrant for them, and no kneeling before a tyrant for their fellow Americans.

 

God Was Our Founding Fathers' Guide and Strength!

 

• Yet how did these courageous Founding Fathers be so brave, so stubborn, so concerned about others and so willing to serve something that was bigger than them?  Yes, God’s Blessing and Strength was given to them.  Our Founding Fathers knew it and yes, never forgot it.   They spoke of God in their writings.   They spoke about their belief in a beneficial, loving and merciful God who would protect them in their most awful and frightening situations. 

 

• Yes by accepting God they found strength, confidence and guidance to Life, Liberty and Happiness.  Only when they accepted Him were they and their fellow Americans truly free!

 

• Yet some like to say our Founding Fathers did not believe in God and they wanted a separation of Church and State.  Baloney!  The Founding Fathers upon establishing our Government simply wanted to make sure in the course of the Freedoms that were guaranteed to all Americans that were once in peril from Great Britain, that our Government would not interfere with Religion that we as citizens would be free to worship as we please and no government power could dictate otherwise, thus the idea of the separation of Church and State.

 

• Today, we enjoy our American Freedoms.  While in early America our Founding Fathers wanted to enjoy Freedoms as well but first they had to acquire them and they knew there was no room for failure in getting them.  Failure was not an option.  The Founding Fathers knew it and they threw all they had down onto the table of ‘Life Presently In America and Life in America for the Future’.   They bet on Freedom, Liberty, Justice, Life, and Happiness not only for themselves but for others and for millions yet to come (that’s us.)  The Dealer who took the bet from them?  Well God of Course!   Yes God, the Everlasting God was there for them in their most trying time. 

 

Who Will Be Our New Founding Fathers?

 

• Yes God, the Everlasting God is here for us now!  Also, God is waiting to see what we are willing to place down onto the table of life for ourselves and for others.  Will it also be Freedom, Liberty, Justice, Life and Happiness as well?   Is, Freedom, Liberty, Justice, Life, Happiness and God still important and relevant to us now?

 

• Especially now as our Freedoms are continuously challenged and lessened by others and God’s Relevancy is questioned as well, we need to answer the following question to ourselves.   

 

God wants to know, will we be the ‘New Founding Fathers and … ?’ 

 

• Will we be willing to serve something greater than ourselves? 

 

• Will we speak out for those who can’t speak for themselves? 

 

• Will we stand toe to toe with those who want to take our freedoms from us and oppose them? 

 

• Will we be willing to sign our name to a complaint against our very own government after we know it will not be well received? 

 

• Finally, are we willing to publicly call on God’s Help and declare God’s Relevancy for our country, for our state, for our city, and for our fellow citizens’ in their time of need?

 

• Would we be willing to lead current Americans forward as our Founding Fathers led Americans in their time? 

 

In Closing, are we willing to be the New Founding Fathers? 

 

• Our Fellow Americans and God are waiting for our answer on this Fourth of July 2007.
