FRED SOKOL: VIRGINIA TECH – MY THOUGHTS, HOPES AND PRAYERS!

To: Rocky River City School District, Rocky River City Government, Rocky River Business Community and Fellow Residents,

THE VIRGINIA TECH TRAGEDY!

  • On Monday, April 16, 2007, Virginia Tech was a scene of a heart breaking, senseless and horrific shooting rampage.

  • Thirty Two (32) innocent men and women died.  In addition the gunman died as well.

HUMAN VIOLENCE AND EVIL TESTS OUR HOPE IN HUMANITY.

  • Of course we feel violence reigns in our world.  Why?

  • First, Virginia Tech will now be noted for it.

  • Second, we see the shooter’s rant and raves on television.  Evil is publicized.

  • Third, as we watch broken hearted the pictures of the innocent shooting victims on television.  It seems Goodness, Innocence and Bravery have no chance over evil.

  • How can we not feel, that violence reigns in our world?

YES THERE IS HOPE FOR THE FUTURE!

  • Though, mankind’s history and makeup is enmeshed in violence and hopelessness.  Human bravery, peace and goodness are also a part of ‘the human story and face’, and that Ladies and Gentlemen is where hope lies for us, for our children and for our children’s children.

HOW DO WE DEAL WITH VIOLENCE AND EVIL?

  • First, we must recognize Evil and Violence in every shape and form.  Never kneel to Evil and Violence and never let it control you.  You control it!

  • Second, stand up to it, speak up to it, meet it, and then oppose it.

  • Third, stay responsible, brave and willing not only to oppose Evil and Violence for yourself but for others as well.  Especially for others who are too afraid to speak up or to defend themselves.

  • Fourth, never forget, if you don’t try to oppose Evil and Violence you will lose!  Then Evil and Violence will win!  That you don’t want.

MY PRAYER!

  • I pray that ‘evil and violence’ may stay from your door, as years go by.   May God Himself Stand Guard At Your Door!

  • I pray for all who are brave and good.  Who recognize evil and violence and are willing to stand up and to speak up, to meet it and then to oppose it.   Not just for themselves, but for others as well.  Protect them God.  They are truly your servants.

  • I also pray for all the victims of violence, especially the victims of violence from Virginia Tech.  They are surely safe in God’s Hands right now!  Also grant peace, strength and healing to all who were injured on that day, and to all the families affected by the Virginia Tech shootings.

  • Finally, may we as an American People come closer as a nation, in order to help, and not to hurt one another!  For surely we are all sister and brother! Amen!

IN CLOSING!

  • God Bless You All!  Be Still, Go In Peace and Rest In God’s Loving Hands!
