A ROCKY RIVER, 'CITY ASSET' GIVE AWAY?

To: Rocky River City School District, Rocky River City Government, Rocky River Business Community and Fellow Residents,

On Monday - February 5, 2007 Cleveland Water Commissioner J. Christopher Nielson made a presentation to Rocky River council regarding the "Proposed Regional Water Service and Economic Development Agreements.”

Do not give away ‘city assets’ that taxpayers paid for, unless ‘We The People’ vote on it first!

Wake Up Rocky River City Hall, before you are all voted out in November 2007!

IN THE PAST, ROCKY RIVER CITY GOVERNMENT HAD A 'SPENDING SPREE'.

Rocky River was a builder until 2007 yet perhaps not anymore.

Rocky River built a Rec Center, Memorial Hall, Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool with plastic palm trees, a skating rink that could be turned into an indoor soccer stadium, a senior center, a municipal garage, and yes a municipal court monstrosity.

They also bought and leveled homes just to widen a road that still stands narrow and foreboding.

Yes up to now Rocky River has been a ‘muscle city’ spending taxpayers’ money at a high rate of speed in bricks and mortar.  They even bragged about the amount of money the city is worth in tax value.

Yet that is not all.  They pick up non-residential garbage located in the city for free!  They even bought a third ambulance for the Rocky River fire department so they can do a ‘use one ambulance today’, ‘use another ambulance the next day’ and so on and so on.

Now there you go Rocky River, fire away at what you do best.  Spend the taxpayers’ money on more city services and bricks and mortar.

Well, I think the building is over now.   Now Rocky River appears to be going backward.  Rocky River success doesn’t seem to be how much they spend taxpayers’ money to build/upgrade more buildings and name more people after them.  Or how many city vehicles they can buy.

Rocky River appears to be moving towards not building more brick and mortar buildings.   Though the current Rocky River indoor pool/Rocky River Teen Center is taking painstakingly long to build, will it ever be built?  Who is in charge anyway?

NOW, IS IT A ROCKY RIVER 'CITY ASSET' GIVE AWAY?

Rocky River appears to have gone full circle to now become a city willing to ‘giveaway their assets’.  Yes ladies and gentleman the great Rocky River giveaway may begin very shortly.

No, this is not a giveaway sale to prospective residents or businesses to entice them to come to and stay in Rocky River.  That makes too much sense!

This is a give away to another city.  That city is Cleveland.  As reported, “… would transfer ownership of all water mains over to the Cleveland Water Department.  Rocky River currently owns only distribution mains that are 20 inches or shorter in diameter.”  (WestLife February 7, 2007 “Regional agreements discussed with city of Cleveland”)

It appears to me there are about 5,000 residences and businesses in Rocky River.   I would safely assume that these said structures require a ‘water line’ that is less than 20 inches in diameter.

So, it appears to me, Rocky River uses more waterlines less than 20 inches in diameter - than using waterlines larger than 20 inches in diameter.

So, Rocky River appears to control more waterlines less than 20 inches in diameter.  The city of Cleveland appears to control fewer waterlines that are larger than 20 inches in diameter in Rocky River.

So why is Rocky River even giving away their - city waterline assets?  As reported, “Cleveland Water … would also be responsible for capital improvement and the cleaning, lining and replacement of the distribution mains.”  (WestLife February 7, 2007 “Regional agreements discussed with city of Cleveland”)

By handing an apparent very valuable Rocky River city asset such as the miles of waterlines less than 20 inches in diameter over to the city of Cleveland so they can come into Rocky River to clean, line and replace distribution mains.  Says to me the city of Rocky River is not capable of doing it themselves.

'WHAT ELSE' SHOULD ROCKY RIVER CITY GOVERNMENT 'GIVE AWAY'?

So let’s hand over all our other city assets to Cleveland for something more in return from the city of Cleveland as well.

How about handing over our Rec Center, Memorial Hall, Indoor Pool, our Outdoor Pool with the plastic palm trees, our skating rink that could be turned into an indoor soccer stadium, our senior center, our municipal garage, and yes give them the municipal court monstrosity as well.

Oh yes, what can we ask in return for these Rocky River taxpayer subsidized monstrosities that we are saddled with now?

Well instead of ‘game night in Rocky River’ or a ‘squeaky sneakers’ jam fest.  The current occupant at Rocky River city hall can ask residents for suggestions.  On what we can ask in return for Cleveland to take these ‘tax burdens’ off of Rocky River taxpayers’ backs.

That’s it!  Just don’t stop at giving away Rocky River’s city asset of its waterlines that are less than 20 inches in diameter.

Let Cleveland take Rocky River’s city assets that are now strapping the Rocky River taxpayer, off of River taxpayers’ backs, as well.

That would be worth more to the taxpayers of Rocky River to have their taxes lowered by paying no more in city building subsidy.

Than to have another city building built, and have another person’s name put on it.

IN CLOSING!

Wake Up Rocky River City Hall, before you are all voted out in November 2007!

Do not give away what we paid for unless we say so!
