CHARTER - ARTICLE 2 - THE MAYOR
TO AMEND:
SECTION 4.
VACANCY AND ABSENCE IN OFFICE OF MAYOR.
SUBSECTION
(b) Vacancy.
In the event the
office of Mayor becomes vacant for any cause or
reason, the President of Council shall become
Acting Mayor until:
(1) (A) A 'CITYWIDE SPECIAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION' SHALL TAKE PLACE WITHIN SIXTY (60) DAYS OF SUCH
VACANCY. (B) 'Candidates for said election' shall come from
'any and all electors' qualified to run for mayor and 'any and all said electors'
shall carry out requirements to become 'a candidate' for mayor - as set forth by this charter.
(C) Council shall pick any further ‘said candidate(s)’ if
needed. (D) Council shall
adopt and codify any further laws that will direct the process
necessary to carryout 'said special election'.
(2) (A) WHEN A CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR WINS A ROCKY RIVER MUNICIPAL ELECTION
FOR MAYOR AND IS NOT ABLE TO BEGIN HIS OR HER TERM ON THE FOLLOWING
JANUARY 1st OF THE NEXT YEAR FOLLOWING ‘SAID ELECTION’.
(B) There shall be a ‘citywide special municipal election’ for
voters to decide his or her replacement within sixty (60)
days of 'candidate elect’s' ‘official stated’ inability to start
‘said term’. (C) There shall only be two (2) candidates for ‘said
special election’. (D) ‘Said Candidates’ shall come from candidate(s) who ran against the candidate who could not begin ‘said
term’ – and the ‘said candidate’ with the next highest vote count
shall come first - then the ‘said candidate’ with the next highest
vote count - shall come second. (E) Council shall pick any further
‘said candidate(s)’ if needed. (F) Council shall adopt and codify
any further laws that will direct the process necessary to carryout
‘said special election’.
